Migraine or Vertigo After a Cold?

If you’ve recently had an infection — COVID, the Flu, Rotavirus, sinus infection, or other — and have developed neurologic symptoms or head pain, this is the article for you. Interestingly, the most recent crop of viruses in the 2023/2024 season seem to have a unique propensity for prompting these types of symptoms.

It’s been hypothesized by the CDC and the NHS that modern strains of COVID and Influenza more easily infect the vestibular system, causing dizziness, vertigo, migraines, and more related issues. What’s particularly tough about this crop of symptoms is that they seem to linger on, far beyond the resolution of the infection. So while you might not feel sick anymore, you may continue to suffer neurologically! For the duration of time that dysfunction persists within your eyes, inner ears, and brain balance systems, your head pain symptoms will likely also persist.

Fortunately, this is an easily-reversible and treatable scenario in the vast majority of cases! Many recent patients of Tampa Bay Functional Neurology have benefitted from our blend of holistic services for post-infection pains. They include treatments for vertigo, persistent dizziness, migraine, persistent daily headache, occipital neuralgia, persistent tinnitus (ringing in the ears).

We offer a distinct curriculum of drug-free interventions, combining a multimodal approach to therapy with effective treatment modalities. If you’ve gotten over your cold but still don’t feel like yourself, please come see us! Book your appointment today, and start feeling better tomorrow!
